Are Metrc & Compliance Certifications Helpful ?

Getting Started in Cannabis

Here are some questions I'm hoping the community can answer in relation to obtaining compliance/metrc certifications, pre employment:

1-is a cert. becoming the industry standard, pre employment, even at the entry level?

2-how common is it for companies to offer this education once on board, even if entry position is in a different area ?

3-can anyone share an experience with getting a certification?

I understand there are a handful of companies that provide this type of extremely thorough training. Simply put, I'm looking to gather information on others experience with starting an entry level compliance position and what is helpful to grow in that category.

Thank you for any thoughts!

Hey Jennifer,

I can only speak a little to your first question. From a recruiting standpoint, METRC experience is extremely desirable and you see it as a demand for higher paid positions within the industry. However, I haven't personally met many applicants that have a cert handy to prove they took a course. Most get it from learning on the job or moving up internally within the dispensaries they've worked at.

So it is possible to get your foot in the door without it and then learn on the job. If you go the extra step though and get certified on your own, it would definitely make you a front runner in most positions you apply for.

Just do your research beforehand when choosing a certification class. Maybe even visit one of your bigger dispensaries and pick their brain there as to what course you should take.

Sorry I can't weigh in on 2 & 3, but hope this helps as a starting point.
