Does New Jersey law prohibit hiring an individual with a felony?

State Regulations and Requirements

I was thinking about venturing into a new business selling recreational now that it is legal in New Jersey. I realize the dispensaries do not hire anyone who has a felony drug charge. I am wondering if this a state requirement or a business requirement.

Hi, Tonya! Take a look at our analysis of New Jersey's cannabis work requirements. Under the "Step 1" section, it tells you exactly which convictions will prevent somebody from getting a cannabis job in the state. There are also some statute of limitation-type rules where if a conviction happened a certain number of years ago, it no longer counts against you for cannabis work purposes. You'll have to go to the state's website to find that piece. They're truly taking social equity seriously out there.

Best of luck in your search!
