Houseplant | Celebrity Brands
I have been following Houseplant since they have announced it, and from what I have been able to observe part of the reason the brand is so expensive is for 2 reasons. First, people love Seth Rogen. He is a modern day cannabis icon, and his personal brand is going to carry a significant premium because of that. In addition to this, it seems like there is a limited supply. Since it has debuted, almost every time I hop on their site, almost everything is sold out. Today has been one of the first times most of their products are in stock, and most products people are limited to only purchasing one. I would say that these items are for the daily user more than they are for the casual. For example, the whole reason he makes his ash trays so deep is so that you do not have to empty them frequently, which is seldom a problem for the occasional user. A lot of thought seems to go into each of his products in terms of convenience for the regular user, which is part of what makes the brand so cool.
Connie-Sanchez: So Seth Rogan launched the brand Houseplant. They have cool products and I wanted to buy the pocketbook but noticed it was $185 dollars...what are your thoughts on celebrity brands that sell products at this price range? Are they for the daily smoker or a novelty for occasional smokers?
I wanted to buy the pocketbook too and was disappointed that it sold out so quickly! In addition to Houseplant being a celebrity brand, which always tends to be more expensive, I think the high pricepoint stems from the unique-ness of the products. Because there aren't many products, if any, that are similar to his, he's been able to establish a pricepoint that can't be compared to others. On top of that, they're using "premium" materials to create the products. It would be great if it were more affordable for the average consumer, but as a brand they've definitely established that they are targeting a connoisseur market. Hopefully we can at least see these products come out in higher quantities soon so we can get our hands on them!
I love Seth Rogan! I'm an artist so I've been watching him on IG getting into pottery and his work is pretty unique! I have to agree with Kelsea that design has a lot to do with it. Mid-century minimalism is super popular right now, plus high quality materials, plus Seth's star power means they can charge whatever they want. It's great to see a celebrity who really loves cannabis making beautiful products that aren't covered in cartoons and mushrooms and typical "stoner" art.
