Malcolm-Macdonald: One of the things about the cannabis industry that has always puzzled me is advertising. Since you cannot get your product into people's hands by way of free samples or put advertisements on TV, what are the best way to get your brand out there and let people know about your products?

Seeding product with influencers and tastemakers is huge, but you have to know your LOCAL audience incredibly well.

Completely agree! Here's a resource that can help you get started on Linkedin: https://flowhub.com/learn/dispensary-linkedin-marketing

Social media is huge, as well as word of mouth. It's not really about merch, but sending passionate, fun reps into stores to educate budtenders, hand out tshirts, and drum up excitement goes a long way. The right person selling your products can get a whole store to push your brand and if they really like you, they will tell their friends, too!

Even though I don't actively post there myself, I would say Instagram has played a role in what brands and products I purchase. An example would be the e-nail maker MiniNail. I'm new-ish to concentrates but their feed along with a good e-marketing campaign got me to buy one of their products. Without Instagram I doubt I would've known about them. 71o Labs also has a couple of great feeds.

Hey malcolm,

i would have to say cannabis events, and you could literally put posters up all over the city! sometimes old school fieldwork is always best. call me! i would love to promote your brand.

Engaging with consumers and retailers on social media, and not just on zuckerberg networks. Twitter is an untapped resource to connect with consumers and owners of retail locations. Another one: reddit! And don't forget that social media isn't "post & go." It's "social" media for a reason. Build relationships.

Being an artist/designer I might be biased, but I feel building a strong and cohesive branding around your business/products is extremely important here. If you have that then you can offer items and other pieces that can help support your companies philosophies and mission.

Using design to educate your audience and offering them to become a part of your culture, they then become the biggest and best supporters/advertisers there are for you.

Since social media can be a tough place to navigate for cannabis, I feel doubling down on experiences outside of social media is crucial especially in this industry.
