Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The Laboratory/Extraction Manager will be responsible for all aspects of plant extraction and various processes associated with cannabis product development.

  • Manage extraction staff - train, coach, interview and hire team members
  • Supervise and coordinate all daily laboratory operations.
  • Test and perfect equipment operations and extraction process in preparation for production.
  • Oversee operation of extraction equipment and plant material preparation for extraction
  • Direct extraction and winterization process in accordance with state and local standards
  • Ensure consistency and efficiency of product through quality control testing and procedures
  • Maintain strict inventory records; including all extracted oil, plant material, extraction solvents (butane), chemicals, and equipment.
  • Direct and implement operation, maintenance, cleaning, adjustment and repairs of extraction equipment
  • Oversee storage of solvents (butane), supplies and equipment and disposal of waste according to guidelines
  • Maintain material safety data sheet for all solvents, chemicals and products
  • Establish and document protocol, reports and records
  • Organize workflow to ensure production output meets specifications and deadlines
  • Enforce health and safety precautions
  • Allocate laboratory resources efficiently to ensure that production requirements are met while maintaining a quality level per regulations.
  • Ensure that all laboratory personnel are properly trained and that laboratory procedures are compliant and being followed
  • Responsible for calibration and preventative maintenance management for all laboratory equipment/instruments
  • Act as a host and/or participate in audits/inspections by internal auditors and external auditors.
  • Implements new programs, tests, methods, instrumentation, and procedures
  • Prepare performance reviews and provide guidance to laboratory staff.
  • Tests requested product in a timely manner, providing analytics on product, preserving all data in accordance with compliance and regulations.


Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biology, Chemical Engineering, Biochemistry or related sciences or equivalent experience
  • A minimum of 3+ years of experience in extraction processes in a lab that adheres to strict health and safety polices and procedures - preferably in a cannabis environment
  • Experience with Extraction Purification and Analysis
  • Understanding of quality standards and health & safety regulations
  • Extensive knowledge of production management
  • Experience in reporting key production metrics
  • Ability to use and understand production and inventory control software and standard office software such as spreadsheets, e-mail and word processing
  • Ability to schedule and plan workloads, implement systems and projects that align with strategic objectives of the company.
  • Strong computer skills and familiarity with Windows operating systems.
  • Ability to work effectively as team leader and guide
  • Ability to remain calm in periods of high stress or unusual activity
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and absolute reliability and honesty
  • Extended time standing, walking, bending, and reaching
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds for a distance of 100 feet
  • Close visual focus required
  • This position occasionally requires the extended and repetitive use of arms, hands and fingers to cut and manipulate small objects
  • Must be able to pass a criminal background check.
