The Laboratory Director is responsible for operational aspects of the laboratory, activities performed in the laboratory, and laboratory employees. The Laboratory Director will play a key role in setting up the laboratory. This person must be comfortable with start-up mode and be a solutions-driven individual.
Ensure that the facility has adequate space, equipment, materials and controls to perform each testEnsure ISO 17025 practices are followed at all timesLead method development and validation effortsImplement and maintain Laboratory Quality Assurance Program including: Proficiency Testing Program, Corrective Actions Preventative Actions Program, ISO 17025 Accreditation and maintenanceEnsure that laboratory employees have appropriate qualifications and training to perform tests for which the laboratory is certified forEnsure that all safety concerns and hazards in the laboratory are promptly addressedSupervise all laboratory personnelAnswer technical inquiries from customersInterview and recruit scientistsDirect scientific activities of the laboratoryDevelop and implement standard operating proceduresEnsure all laboratory employees are adequately trained to perform their assignmentsAssist in all aspects of setting up the laboratory (organize and schedule instrument installations, assist in workflow organization, unpack and organize supplies)Sign off and approve data for release
The Laboratory Director must be able to move about the laboratoryThis position requires the ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
Experience managing and mentoring junior scientistsExperience with method development and method validationMust be able to multi taskStrong critical thinking skillsMust be detail -orientedWorking knowledge of Microsoft OfficeMust have a positive attitude and be solution -orientedPractical experience in a regulated laboratory (GLP, ISO 17025, etc.)Experience with LIMS is a plusExperience with a Document Management System is a plusExperience operating and troubleshooting a wide variety of analytical instrumentation including at least 3 of the following: HPLC/DAD, LC/MS/MS, GC/FID, ICP -MS, GC/MS, qPCRMust be flexible and adaptable to shifting priorities
PhD in a chemical or biological science from an accredited college or university ORMS in a chemical or biological science from an accredited college or university (4 years of full -time practical experience in a post -education laboratory performing analytical scientific testing in which the testing methods are or were recognized by a laboratory -accrediting body) ORBS in a chemical or biological science from an accredited college or university (7 years of full -time, post -education practical experience in a laboratory performing analytical scientific testing in which the testing methods are or were recognized by a laboratory -accrediting body)
