This is a technical position responsible for the collection of samples, and the study/performance of tests on various chemical compounds and biological specimens. Daily work involves the use of various types of machinery, lab equipment and complex computer programs to perform tests, record data or findings and present information.
Weighing and preparing samples in various forms for chemical and microbial analysis
Providing outstanding customer service to clients during field visits
Acquiring and analyzing data used to perform and report analytical laboratory testing of cannabis products
Assisting with the validation of test methods and with Research and Development (R&D) related activities
Preparing all appropriate reports related to cannabinoid potency, terpene potency, residual solvents, heavy metals, pesticides, microbiologic organisms, water activity and mycotoxins
Performing advanced laboratory support functions such as calibration standard preparation, analytical equipment tuning and maintenance, and analysis of data used for laboratory quality control
Recognizing possible processing or instrument errors, providing backup for emergency/preventative equipment maintenance
Performing precise and reliable on-site sampling in accordance with State requirements and Steep Hill Laboratory procedures and protocols
Assisting with the upkeep and improvement of elements of the quality management system such as SOP’s and the training program
Communicating with team members in order to best support client activities
May also be called upon to perform the same or similar duties at other laboratory locations including facilities in Columbia, Maryland
Securing the transportation of customer samples in designated vehicles from sampling sites to delivery at the Steep Hill laboratory
Adhering to recorded transport routes and schedules to ensure the safe and timely transport of client samples
Implementing proper “chain of custody” documentation and adhering to state and corporate protocol for the transport of samples
May be responsible for other job-related duties as assigned
Performing clerical tasks, including but not limited to the completion and maintenance of laboratory and/or inventory spreadsheets, the management and organization of customer records, the management and tracking of laboratory related shipments, and other duties on an as needed basis
Timely logging of client samples received into both Steep Hill’s database and METRC or MJ Freeway
Cooperating with laboratory team members and facilitating the accurate dissemination of information across the organization
Ensuring accurate analytic results to instill customer confidence and retention
Supporting laboratory process, method, and operations improvement projects
Understanding customer needs and providing appropriate recommendations based on internal briefings and relevant industry knowledge

Analytical and numerical skills: ability to perform mathematical calculations (add, subtract, multiply, divide) in different units of measurement; ability to use concepts such as fractions, percentages, and ratios; demonstrated abilities in troubleshooting and problem-solving
Basic knowledge of modern office practices and use of Microsoft Office Suite for Word and Excel
Experience in driving tasks and meeting deadlines; accountable for the completion of assigned goals and objectives
Ability to build relationships to strengthen partnerships with a focus on customer service
Customer service or customer-facing experience and analytical laboratory experience preferred
Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or a related field from an accredited college
